CLIENT BACKGROUND

Meet the Chinese American Museum of Chicago.
Currently operating in the heart of Chicago, their mission is to advance the appreciation of Chinese American culture through exhibitions, education, and research and to preserve the past, present, and future of Chinese Americans primarily in the Midwest.

iNITIAL Problem DISCOVERY

In addition to a challenging navigational experience, their current website lacks creativity and a concrete identity to promote exploration and human connection.

USER RESEARCH

We conducted 8 user interviews/usability testing sessions with the original CAMOC website, and defined 4 key stakeholders.
RESEARCH QUESTIONS
1. What motivates users to access the CAMOC website for information?

2. What do users struggle with when accessing the CAMOC website for information?

3. Do users find the navigation process on the CAMOC website intuitive?

4. Can they find the information they need to successfully visit, attend events, and/or use museum resources?

5. What is the website experience like for new users?

6. What avenues do they take if they are unable to find information on the CAMOC website?

7. What aspects of other museum websites can CAMOC incorporate or improve to provide a more user friendly experience?

Research analysis

We then used the affinity diagramming method to group our insights into four overarching themes.
The four themes read as:
1. Website navigation

2. Visual aesthetics

3. User engagement

4. Current offerings

User personas

Based on our interviews and initial usability testing sessions, we proceeded to create 3 user personas to highlight specific pain points through different experiences on the website.
time to start ideating.
